It’s summer, the heat is overwhelming and the weather is out of whack. A group of friends are enjoying their yearly holiday in their favorite little village, wedged between the sea and the mountains. As usual, they are bored and eat and drink a lot. They do not pay attention to the fire which progresses on the mountain nearby, nor to the world around them. But this year, a mysterious man arrives from the sea and shakes up their seemingly balanced existence...

Il film focalizza sulle vicende di 5 personaggi con i rimpianti, i problemi del presente e anche qualcosa di pesante da nascondere come, per uno di essi, un passato da molestatore di minori. Il tutto in attesa delle nozze e della pioggia purificatrice dei monsoni. Il film rappresenta una svolta decisa per Mira Nair.
I parigini Lea, Adrien e il fratellino Théo vanno in vacanza per due mesi dai nonni, nella campagna provenzale. Una casa in mezzo al nulla, senza illuminazione notturna e senza televisione: non esattamente ciò che i ragazzi si aspettavano, eppure questa vacanza finirà per sorprenderli.
