Frank Sears fa i conti con una strana paura che porta con sé dal momento in cui la madre si tolse la vita. Misteriosi segnali lo conducono a scoprire un progetto top-secret in una base militare. Una creatura malvagia, mostruosa, che si nutre di luce ed energia muovendosi con velocità esponenziale, sta prendendo il sopravvento su ogni cosa. L'origine di questa creatura ha a che fare con il passato di Frank: dovrà confrontarsi con l'orrenda realtà che solamente lui è in grado di fermare questo inferno vivente.
