School's over – and for brand-new high-school graduates Ben, Felix and Nick, it's time to party! But when Ben embarrasses himself in public trying to declare his love for the gorgeous Carola, he and his pals make a quick exit by taking jobs as hosts in a vacation club on Ibiza, the Mediterranean hot spot for oversexed boys and underdressed girls! Instead of sun, sea and sex, however, it's work, work and more work, as the three are kept busy around the clock by their sadistic boss Anna. And when Ben bumps into Carola and her super-cool DJ boyfriend, Ibiza starts feeling more like Alcatraz by the minute. Yet even as the mishaps pile up and the boys have to cope with stinging jellyfish, English hooligans and tequila hangovers, they refuse to give up their plan to throw the ultimate Ibiza party for the club, and especially for Carola. Rob Gordon, proprietario a Chicago del Championship Vinyl, anomalo negozio di dischi pop, è scaricato dall'amata Laura. L'abbandono lo porta a un bilancio dei suoi fallimenti sentimentali, e a crescere. Dal romanzo (1995) di Nick Hornby, sceneggiato in quattro tra cui J. Cusack, anche coproduttore. Strutturata su monologhi spiritosi e un po' autolesionistici, detti dal protagonista guardando in macchina, l'aguzza e garbata commedia si sviluppa a 2 livelli: il negozio con i due maniacali amici-commessi (il calvo Louiso e il frenetico Black) e la sfilata, in flashback o al presente, delle Top Five, le cinque fanciulle che, secondo lui, gli hanno spezzato il cuore.
Alan e Pat, due conduttori radiofonici, scoprono che la stazione radio per cui lavorano è stata comprata da un grande gruppo dei media. Pat viene licenziato. Tuttavia torna sul suo posto di lavoro armato di fucile e prende in ostaggio i suoi colleghi. Per Alan sembra venuto il momento di agire in modo molto strano.
