Un sergente dei Marine trascorre il suo tempo libero insieme a un ristretto gruppo di amici. Quando il suo fratello minore, giovane e scapestrato, uccide in modo accidentale un uomo durante una rissa al bar e cerca di fuggire in un'altra città, il militare lo ferma e lo obbliga ad affrontare le conseguenze delle sue azioni. Dopo aver trascorso del tempo in Iraq, il protagonista torna a casa e scopre che l'ultimo appello in tribunale è stato respinto, decidendo quindi di far uscire dal carcere il ragazzo, a qualsiasi costo.
