Tornato alla sua città natale, il cowboy John Mason (Christian Slater) riallaccia i rapporti con i suo amici di infanzia e il padre sceriffo di origini messicane. Nel posto imperversa però una banda di spietati banditi dedita a rapine a mano armata, in una delle quali resta ucciso il padre di Mason.
