Gavin Stone, a washed-up former child star, is forced to do community service at a local megachurch and pretends to be Christian so he can land the part of Jesus in their annual Passion Play, only to discover that the most important role of his life is far from Hollywood.

Glasgow. Il giovane Robbie, già recidivo, evita il carcere perché il giudice decide di puntare sulla sua capacità di recupero visto che la sua altrettanto giovane compagna sta aspettando un figlio. Viene così affidato a Rhino che è il responsabile di un gruppo di persone sfuggite al carcere e condannate a compiere lavori socialmente utili. Dopo aver assistito a un pestaggio, di cui Robbie diviene vittima nel momento in cui decide di andare in ospedale per vedere il bambino, Rhino decide di aiutarlo. Scoperta la sua particolare sensibilità gustativa per quanto riguarda i vari tipi di whisky decide di introdurlo nell'ambiente. È così che a Robbie e ad alcuni suoi compagni di rieducazione viene l'idea di un 'colpo' del tutto anomalo che però potrebbe offrire loro un futuro sereno.
