Date of death: set 14, 1974 (68)
From Wikipedia Barbara Jo Allen (September 2, 1906 – September 14, 1974) was an actress also known as Vera Vague, the spinster character she created and portrayed on radio and in films during the 1940s and 1950s. She based the character on a woman she had seen delivering a PTA literature lecture in a confused manner. As Vague, she popularized the catch phrase "You dear boy!" Allen's acting ability first surfaced in school plays. Following her high school graduation, she went to Paris to study at the Sorbonne. Concentrating on language, she became proficient in French, Spanish, German and Italian. After the death of her parents, she moved to Los Angeles where she lived with her uncle. In 1937, she debuted on network radio drama as Beth Holly on NBC's One Man's Family, followed by roles on Death Valley Days, I Love a Mystery and other radio series. According to Allen, her Vera Vague character was “sort of a frustrated female, dumb, always ambitious and overzealous… a spouting Bureau of Misinformation.” After Vera was introduced in 1939 on NBC Matinee, she became a regular with Bob Hope beginning in 1941. Allen appeared in at least 60 movies and TV series between 1938 and 1963, often credited as Vera Vague rather than her own name. The character she created was so popular that she eventually adopted the character name as her professional name. From 1943 to 1952, as Vera, she made more than a dozen comedy two-reel short subjects for Columbia Pictures. In 1948, she did less acting and instead opened her own commercial orchid business, while also serving as the Honorary Mayor of Woodland Hills, California. In 1953, as Vera, she hosted her own television series, Follow the Leader, a CBS audience participation show. In 1958, she appeared as Mabel, the boss of the flight attendants, in Jeannie Carson's syndicated version of her situation comedy Hey, Jeannie! The program aired only six episodes in syndication. Allen's first marriage was to actor Barton Yarborough. They had one child together. In 1946, the couple co-starred in the two-reel comedy short, Hiss and Yell, nominated for an Academy Award as Best Short Subject. In 1931-32, Allen married Charles H. Crosby. In 1943, she married Bob Hope's producer, Norman Morrell. They had one child and were married for three decades, until her 1974 death in Santa Barbara, California.
Dominique Farrugia
Born: set 02, 1962
Vichy, Allier, France
Age: 62
Dominique Farrugia (born 2 September 1962) is a French actor, film director, screenwriter, producer, humorist and comedian. He is a member and founder of the group of comedians Les Nuls alongside Alain Chabat, Chantal Lauby and Bruno Carette. Farrugia was born in Vichy, France, to a Jewish pied-noir and Maltese family. Since the launching of Canal+, in 1984, he works in editing trailers and as a broadcast production assistant on the Tous en scène show. Thus he meets Canal+ first weatherman, Alain Chabat, with whom he would form the group of comedians Les Nuls alongside Chantal Lauby and Bruno Carette in 1986. In 1987 he is included in the writing of the TV series Objective: nul (7 d'Or for best comedy TV show), the first parody by Les Nuls. He hosts a parodic weather forecast in the 'JTN' of 'Nulle part ailleurs' from 1987 to 1988. Initially, he did not want to act, but rather write. The absence of one of the actors in an episode of Objective: nul accidentally placed him in front of the camera. TVN 595, a TV special which was broadcast in October 1988, won the 7 d'Or for best show. Les Nuls' career lasts until 1992. In 1994, La Cité de la peur is released making 3,216,436 entries in the French box office. After Les Nuls split, Dominique Farrugia starts a film career as a director with Delphine 1, Yvan 0 and Trafic d'influence. He subsequently becomes a producer founding the RF2K production company with the actor Olivier Granier. In 1997 he founded the cable and satellite TV channel Comédie!, discovering new comic talents such as Les Robins des Bois, Franck Dubosc, Titoff, Kad & Olivier and Jonathan Lambert. In April 2001, he created the cable and satellite TV channel Cuisine TV. In 2001-2002, he produces Vidocq (1,865,998 entries in France) and Monsieur Batignole (1,872,045 entries in France). In 2002, he first becomes director-general and deputy director of broadcasting and programming at Canal+ and later president from April 2002 to February 2003 and to date, only assistant becoming president of Canal+. In July 2003, he created FEW (Farrudg Entertainment Worldwide), a media company producing feature films. In 2007 he produced the show of Manu Payet, then two years later of Laurent Lafitte. In 2009, he launched the website Les graves infos which presents false news. The site is closed on 23 February 2010. In 2010, he co-directed with Arnaud Lemort the film L'amour c'est mieux à deux (1,250,000 entries in France, more profitable movie of 2010, with its particular stage of Clovis Cornillac, Virginia Efira and Manu Payet). Between September 2010 and May 2011, he is a columnist in the show Tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentil, hosted by Bruce Toussaint, every Sunday on Canal+. On 20 November 2012, FEW, his production company and Luc Besson's EuropaCorp, signed an agreement under which all FEW films will be produced exclusively in partnership with EuropaCorp. Laurindo Almeida (September 2, 1917 – July 26, 1995) was a Brazilian guitarist and composer in classical, jazz, and Latin music. He and Bud Shank were pioneers in the creation of bossa nova. Almeida was the first guitarist to receive Grammy Awards for both classical and jazz performances. His discography encompasses more than a hundred recordings over five decades. In addition to his recording achievements, Almeida continued his work with the film studios throughout his career, playing guitar, lute, mandolin and other instruments for more than 800 motion picture and television soundtracks (such as The High Chaparral and "The Gift," an episode of The Twilight Zone). Almeida made cameo appearances in the 1954 movie A Star is Born and on a 1959 episode of Peter Gunn titled "Skin Deep". His performing credits included major motion pictures such as Good-bye, My Lady (1956), Funny Girl (1968), and The Godfather (1972). He composed the complete film scores for ten motion pictures and portions for hundreds of others, including Charles and Ray Eames's 1957 film Day of the Dead.[6] He also underscored and performed for Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven (1992). His final film work was in The Cat in the Hat (2003) in which his whistling cover of "The Girl from Ipanema" is briefly heard. Some articles report Almeida won at least one Oscar award for film composition; however, while he was involved in films that were nominated, he did not receive an Oscar for his film work.
