From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Helen Dorothy Martin (July 23, 1909 – March 25, 2000) was an American actress of stage and television who is perhaps most well known for her role in the sitcom 227 as Marla Gibbs' neighbor Pearl. Martin was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Amanda Frankie (née Fox) and William Martin, a minister. Martin was a Broadway character actress for many decades, debuting in Orson Welles' production of Native Son in 1941. She appeared in at least a dozen Broadway shows including Jean Genet's The Blacks, Raisin from 1973 to 1975, Ossie Davis' Purlie Victorious (and later the musical version, which was called Purlie), The Amen Corner and Tennessee Williams' Period of Adjustment. She was an original member of the American Negro Theater. She first became famous later in life for her guest role as Wanda on the television series Good Times, and later as the wisecracking neighbor Pearl Shay on the television sitcom 227. She also played on the short-run sitcoms Baby, I'm Back (as mother in-law, Luzelle) and That's My Mama; as Loc Dog's grandma, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (1996), the matronly grandmother Mama Doll in the 1998 film Bulworth, and the no-nonsense grandmother in the film Hollywood Shuffle. Hugo Arana (July 23, 1943 - October 11, 2020 Buenos Aires, Argentina) was an Argentinian film, television and theatre actor. Arana grew up in Monte Grande and moved with his family to Lomas de Zamora and then Lanus. He studied acting with Marcello Lavalle and Augusto Fernandez. In his first years as an actor, he was part of a theatre group called "Errare Humanum Est" and he acted in films such as El Santo de la Espada (1970) and La tregua (1974). In the 1980s, he became popular for his part in an advertisement for Crespi wine, and then for his part in the TV Sitcom Matrimonios y algo más (directed by Hugo Moser), in which he played two characters who were highly acclaimed by the public: the "Groncho" (in the comedy sketch "El Groncho y La Dama" (The Shabby Man and the Lady)) and Huguito Araña (a stereotypically femenine gay man). He has worked on the Telefé TV series Los exitosos Pells, where he played the director of the fictitious channel "Mega News", Franco Andrada. Gloria Mildred DeHaven (born July 23, 1925) is an American actress, singer and a former contract star for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. DeHaven was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of actor-director, Carter DeHaven, and actress, Flora Parker DeHaven, both former vaudeville performers. She began her career as a child actor with a bit part in Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936). She was signed to a contract with MGM. Despite featured roles in such films as Best Foot Forward, The Thin Man Goes Home (1944) and Summer Stock (1950), and being voted by exhibitors as the third most likely to be a "star of tomorrow'" in 1944, she did not achieve film stardom. She portrayed her own mother, Flora Parker DeHaven, in the Fred Astaire film Three Little Words (1950). DeHaven also appeared as a regular in the television series and soap operas As the World Turns, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Ryan's Hope. She was one of the numerous celebrities enticed to appear in the all-star box office flop, Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976), and has guest starred in such television series as Robert Montgomery Presents, Appointment with Adventure (episode entitled "The Snow People"), The Guy Mitchell Show, Johnny Ringo (as Rosemary Blake in "Love Affair"), The Rifleman, Wagon Train, The Lloyd Bridges Show, Marcus Welby, M.D., Gunsmoke, Mannix, Fantasy Island, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, Mama's Family, Highway to Heaven, Murder, She Wrote and Touched by an Angel.
